Climate change is increasingly shaping the way competitive gatherings are planned and jam jahani organized. Historical weather data is no longer sufficient for historical weather patterns when setting match dates, as extreme heat, sudden downpours, and violent weather systems are becoming more frequent. In tennis, for example, matches that used to be held comfortably in the afternoon are now being shifted to early morning or evening to protect players from heat stress. Some tournaments have even introduced heat policies that suspend matches when temperatures surpass critical benchmarks.

For field-based events such as cricket and rugby, course and field conditions are becoming increasingly unstable. Extended dry spells can turn grass surfaces brittle and unsafe, while intense deluges can lead to waterlogged pitches and cancellations. Event coordinators must increasingly build adaptive buffers into their logistics, often preparing multiple backup dates or fallback sites. Insurance costs are rising as well, since the probability of event interference has grown substantially.

Smoke and pollution are emerging as major threats. Increasingly frequent forest blazes in many regions can produce toxic particulate matter that endangers athletes’ respiratory systems and audience comfort. Events have been postponed or relocated in recent years due to poor air quality, something that was not part of planning equations a decade ago.

Logistics have also become more complex. Transportation for all event participants is being affected by weather-induced breakdowns such as aircraft grounded by heat waves. Guest housing in event hubs are under increased pressure as fans and travelers arrive during periods of extreme weather, increasing demand for cooling resources and water.

Many federations are now integrating climate resilience into their long-term planning. This includes choosing sites equipped with advanced water management and climate control, powering events with solar or wind energy, and adopting circular economy practices. Certain events mandate that suppliers meet green operational benchmarks, and some are rewarding attendees who use shared mobility options.

Maintaining participant and fan satisfaction remains paramount, tournament planners must now balance legacy practices with necessary change. Global warming is no longer theoretical—it is actively transforming sports that is redefining the framework of event management.
